I, Mickey Mindfreak, host a weekly radio talk show where I discuss conspiracy theories, heuristics, and the occult. I have lived my entire life in the "post-truth era," where so much doubt has been cast on the reliability of any source of information that people often simply choose what to believe based on what feels nice. I do not claim to be an expert on any field - I am a forester by trade, not any sort of scientist - but I do think we can do a little better than just giving up. That's why rather than trying to create a reliable bundle of facts to draw from, Mind Battle has set out to create a viable method for thought. How does one navigate this world awash with lies? On Mind Battle, we discuss.
While local listeners enjoyed Mind Battle for its diversity of subject matter and intellectual honesty,
this was not the case for listeners overseas - and by "overseas" I mean across the
vast mirrored waters of the plane of Torviil, where an alien calling itself "Moon" caught a
stray broadcast. Moon hates knowledge and clarity, so it set out to kill me. On April 28th, 2025, the
creature entered my recording studio and I was able to capture a photo. This was an earth-shattering
revelation, and it has since become the primary objective of the Mind Battle program to learn and
document as much about life on other planes of existence as possible. In addition to non-human sentience,
my interactions with Moon confirmed the possibility of psychic action with real world consequences.
This most simply refers to telepathy, but also remote viewing, remote control of another creature's body
systems, and apparently even control over the weather. The full scope of psychic capability is not yet
clear to me, and apparently there are other categories of occult action with even greater scope. Needless
to say, I am investigating this as well.
I don't know much about the plane of Tracom. So far, I've only made contact with two Tracom-native entities. Both were conversational, but strictly speaking only one could be considered sentient. As for the plane itself, it has been described to me as wide and flat. The ground is littered with deep, possibly bottomless holes that shine with sunlight. These holes take the place of the sun in the sky. Despite having no sun, Tracom does apparently have days and nights. During the day it is temperate, and at night there are severe windstorms which are dangerous to native animals. Given the sweeping nature of this climatic description, it would seem that Tracom does not have seasons.
Insects are a species of intelligent humanoid. They are eusocial and live in colonies which build towers out of wood. Each insect tower is architecturally unique, and each colony constitutes a society whose tower architecture stands in for ideology. Colonies zealously hate their neighbors on the basis of improper tower architecture. My other source reports that insects are individually intelligent, and that one working alone is still able to build a tower to withstand the nightly wind storm. However, by their own estimation, insects are not intelligent at all. Instead, they believe that the "mind" belongs to the colony as a whole and is exchanged between individuals for the purposes of architectural planning. Presumably, there is some truth to this - insects communicate with one another telepathically. I hypothesize that each insect is individually intelligent, but that they are also aware of an emergent swarm intelligence which they identify as the "mind," and an individual's mind is not considered at all. Every member of the insect species is also named Insect, likely another consequence of species-being superceding the individual thanks to telepathic eusociality. It is not clear to me what insects eat. Plants, maybe?
Trees are sentient in Tracom. Or, at least, some are - the possibility of innert trees remains. They have faces on their trunks, so each tree lives its entire life looking in the same direction. It does not seem that the sentient trees have any unique ability to move their branches - they still feed with their roots and rely on photosynthesis. In most ways, they seem to be identical to Earth's trees. There are different tree species, and they don't seem to share animosity. Trees communicate with one another through a root network, just like on Earth, suggesting a species of Tracom-native root fungus. Is this fungus also sentient? Most intriguing, however, is the trees' natural ability to grow between planes of existence. Apparently, they can sprout trunks on Earth, as well as in Torviil and Ercubius. The tree I spoke to claims to have a trunk on Earth presently, yet there are no reports of trees with faces anywhere in the world. My contact also claims to have been able to sense from this trunk. Either trees do not need faces to sense, or, more likely, they have a different definition of "face" than we do. One tree by the name of "Sly Aspen" is aware of me specifically, and apparently has been since even before I first made contact with other planes of existence.
The plane of Torviil is a vast ocean of unknown depth. It is one of the planes that has been easiest to document, as its native inhabitants are very talkative. The plane itself is litered with islands, each identified by geographic features in common parlance. As far as I am aware, no island is large enough to constitute a continent. Torviil also does not have a sun in its sky, instead having a perpetual self-luminous white. There is allegedly a form of sunlight shining from the bottom of the ocean, but this is not very well attested. Every creature on Torviil has a telepathically discernible inner monologue, though this doesn't seem to mean sentience. For example, there is a species of eyeless fish whose thoughts can be heard, but it is widely considered morally acceptable to eat them. Certain other animals, like the Torviil equivalent of octopuses (yorikliche) and birds (bere'irii), are a bit more controversial. Torviil is an incorporated plane, and doesn't seem to have any governments more powerful than the Synod.
Gjg'doahg are the least ambiguously sentient inhabitants of Torviil. They are mostly humanoid, but quite a bit larger than us. They have one eye, no nose, and twisting muscles. Gjg'doahg are the alien species I know the most about, because I have dissected one. Moon was a Gjg'doahg - almost. It tore out its brain and became something known in Gjg'doahg society as a Gjg'da-os. Like most aliens, it seems, Gjg'doahg do not reproduce in the same way as Earth animals. Instead, they begin their lives as an aquatic amoeba which feeds on kelp. These amoebae, or "vitriols" as they are often called, simply occur deep in the ocean and nobody knows why or how. After a time, they slowly form into a complete Gjg'doahg body, but remain brainless. At this stage, the creature is called a "Doahg-nous." There is a separate species of animal which grows on trees, a kind of arboreal brain-octopus called a "Gjg." When a Doahg-nous washes ashore, the Gjg descends from the trees and enters its skull, and the two form a symbiosis. Without a body, the Gjg is not able to feed. Without a brain, the doahg-nous is antisocial and... we'll say troubled. Gjg'doahg are naturally telepathic thanks to a thin, nerve-dense region on either side of their skulls which works sort of like an eardrum, but for psychic waves instead of sound. Gjg'doahg telepathic hearing is limited by their brains, but their broadcast capacity is greatly improved. When enough Gjg'doahg congregate in one place, they naturally create a sort of psychic internet called a "web of whispers." As far as I can tell, they can choose to transmit messages into the web, and other Gjg'doahg can scan for things they want to hear. The geographic range of a web of whispers can be extended through magical technology currently unknown to me. The Gjg'doahg have several societies, usually spanning their entire island. They occasionally cross between islands on boats, but it sounds like this is pretty rare.
Ercubius is a shockingly similar plane to Earth. Admitedly, I understand less about their ecology than I do about their politics. However, we know that Ercubius is mostly covered in forest, and that their trees are very tall. The plane's inhabitants make frequent reference to a number of cities, which are centers of industrial manufacture. Each city has a municipal government, and these governments have confederated into an entity known as "Zeitgheist." Despite being a state first and foremost, Zeitgheist's operations are primarily commercial. They have some sort of business deal with the Synod. Around 3,000 years ago, Ercubius' inhabitants would regularly physically travel to Earth, and posibly vice versa. They seem to have almost exclusively been in contact with the Americas, yet there is no trace of interaction with Ercubius in indigenous oral history. Ercubius is apparently the original home of the ayahuasca plant. Presently, the plane is known among the psychic community for the production of a substance known as "plasochorine," which is a drug that greatly improves neuroplasticity. It is likely that a litany of other powerfully psychoactive plants grow here. However, the open forests of Ercubius are dangerous. There is a species of giant bird called a "lechwarf" that eats people.
Thrags are the sentient inhabitants of Ercubius. The Thrag people are divided into a number of morphological castes, each possessing human-like limbs but having trilaterally symmetric body plans. The Thrag-tiiro, or heatermen, posess only legs. They are somehow used for menial labor and are effectively a slave class. Recently, I accidentally started a slave revolt among the Thrag-tiiro, who are able to access Mind Battle on Ercubian television. Next are the Thrag-pallax, or "movermen," who also have arms. They are presumably used for precision labor, as the manufacture of electronics (particularly televisions) is very important on Ercubius. However, they have a bit more job diversity than the Thrag-tiiro. My interplanar resource supplier is a Thrag-pallax named Anywhere, and it seems like his smuggling operation is considered more or less legal. Finally, there are the "Thrag-nasha," who have heads. They seem to be the primary manufacturers of media. I've intercepted one Ercubian tv show called "Andros Varn: Door Opener," as well as some fan-fiction articles about Mind Battle and some Ercubian YouTube Drama slop. Thrags have no immediately obvious natural psychic cababilities, but make regular use of machinery which is able to read and broadcast directly into the mind. Additionally, their economy seems to literally trade in information. They don't even have a currency - every time I've bought something from Ercubius I've paid in memories, and this is apparently standard practice. I've also sold fruit to Thrags, and they paid me in secrets. How exactly one maintains an industrial society with an economy this ephemeral is beyond me, but I'll bet the morphologically castigated slavery helps.
Ran-Eryth, alternately called "the Red Dimension," is a very difficult plane to access. I have its frequency, but many broadcasts from there are simply stomach noises and screaming. This is because the plane itself is one giant beast, and everything in the plane lives inside it. There are twelve redworlds within Ran-Eryth, and I have only been able to get coherent information from the eighth redworld. It has continents and cities, though the cities are civilization in appearence alone. Nobody knowns who built the cities, and it even seems possible that they are simply a feature of the landscape itself. Ran-Eryth does have seasons, or at least analogous celestial events. It occasionally rains blood or chunks of meat, except during the dry season when temperatures outside can reach scalding and there is no rainfall. Though I cannot attest to this myself, Synod broadcasts claim that Ran-Eryth is home to "redbeasts," which are telepathic predators that impersonate sentient life to specifically hunt psychics. There are no plants in the Red Dimension, but there are sedentary plant-like organisms which produce fruit that tastes quite good and is apparently an aphrodesiac. The sky in Ran-Eryth is pitch black, and looking at it results in a paralyzing existential dread. The Red Dimension was in contact with medieval Europe. It was mistaken for Hell and its inhabitants for the damned, and so they were rebuked. This apparently led to humanity abjuring Earth against interplanar contact, which is why we have no knowledge of other planes. Ran-Eryth also has little information about other planes, though this may have more to do with its vanishingly small psychic population than actual traversibility. Not only is Ran-Eryth unincorporated, but it is actually forbidden by Synod law to travel there or even make contact.
The Davar'hun are the sentient inhabitants of redworld 8. I am not sure if the other redworlds are also inhabited by Davar'hun, or some other species. Most Davar'hun do not know their species name and simply think of themselves as "people." This is because shared knowledge is very difficult for the Davar'hun to access, given their lack of a social structure. Davar'hun are cannibalistic, and regularly hunt each other in the streets. They get larger as they age, apparently becoming massive monsters instead of reaching decrepitude. They do have information technology, which they call books but which are certainly not books. In order to "read" one, a syringe is involved... I suspect the Davar'hun are able to weakly direct their rapid bodily growth, and some will trade muscle mass for glands of chemical memory which they remove and store. Libraries are attended by acolytes, so the act of writing or reading is probably seen as religious and is not common practice. Though the Davar'hun don't have a social contract, there are establishments like radio broadcasts and some analog to a political system. As far as I can tell, the eighth redworld is ruled by the individual who can ascend something called the White Spire. The person atop the White Spire is called the president, and it isn't clear to me what power the president has. Despite the might-makes-right nature of this political system, there are elections. Something called the ballot-man runs across the land, and one must apprehend him in order to cast their vote. Presidential candidates are then able to grow larger based on the votes they receive, which is how they become strong enough to defeat the previous president.
The plane of Pertur is contained entirely within a massive house. I believe it is relatively common for people to astral project here in their dreams, though we seldom encounter the inhabitants. The style of the house is architecturally consistent throughout, and if my theory is correct its style could best be described as neocolonial. There are windows through which an outside is visible, but this outside is not accessible by any means as all doors lead to other rooms. One might be able to leave through the windows, though as far as I can tell nobody has ever tried. This may also be a unique difficulty for the plane's inhabitants, given their body plan. Pertur can be considered an incorporated plane, as it is the origin of the Synod. However, they don't have as strong a hold of it as they do Torviil. Pertur has a number of other governments. I'm not sure if any of these other governments are interplanar like the Synod. I certainly haven't heard reference to Perturi governments other than the Synod on other planes. The halls of Pertur are fully furnished, but given the lack of sunlight there are no houseplants growing. Despite this, drawers in the house contain things like cigarrettes and are made of wood, both of which would imply there are at least plants somewhere. I assume that most resources are found in drawers, including food, which would mean there is a perpetual incentive to search for new rooms where one can find more resources in the drawers.
Matambs are the sentient inhabitants of Pertur, and, as far as I can tell, the only form of life in the entire plane. They are cube-shaped quadrupeds, but their forelimbs sport hands which they can use by sitting back on their haunches. I am told that every Matamb lives for exactly one hundred years, but this is presumably their natural lifespan and can be cut short prematurely. I have killed a Matamb myself. As soon as one dies, a new one crawls forth from its body. Matambs do seem to have a period of adolescence, but I am not sure if this is biological altriciality or merely social development. I have certainly spoken to some Matambs which sound older than others, implying that they are affected by old age and therefore that young Matambs are probably identifiably different. They also possess an innate sense of direction and are always able to tell where north is. However, I don't completely understand how there can be a "north" in other planes because they are usually infinite expanses and not planets... Equally intriguing is the fact that I have spoken to a Matamb with an Italian accent. Accents come from natural patterns of syllabic stress that are either socially conditioned or the result of natively speaking another language. Did this Matamb natively speak Italian, or was it simply raised by another Matamb with an Italian accent? And where would that accent have come from? All aliens I have encountered so far have spoken English, but are there populations which speak other languages? For example, the Thrags that traded with indigenous peoples probably spoke their same language... It's still not entirely clear to me why aliens speak English, so perhaps this is consistent with whatever mechanism is at play there. Matambs do not seem to have natural psychic abilities, but the ones I have encountered have been powerful psychics nonetheless.
The Synod is a collective of bitch-ass motherfuckers who suck. The organization was founded thousands of years ago with the objective of discouraging dangerous thought. One has to imagine that in societies where natural psychic abilities are common, it's genuinely a matter of great consequence who is thinking what. For example, if people get to talking and accidentally create an egregore which can siphon and direct their psychic energy toward the end of growing itself, it would be a real problem. It's even a problem for humans - just look at capitalism! In practice, however, the Synod basically banned curiosity and certain forms of information technology. They now encourage their citizens to deliberately reshape their psyches into factories of content subservience, so that no citizen is ever compelled to do violence against another. Again, what seems like a noble objective is in practice a mass lobotomy. A particularly egregious example of Synod mental architecture at work was the Ag-Vuesh Cräb, who simply decided that I was guilty of a crime one day and spent the rest of its waking life trying to come up with a justification for this belief. The Synod is also responsible for a Gjg orchard on Torviil where they convert doahg-nous and have immediate access to a freshly formed sentience. This is the closest thing to indoctrinating children one can do among species that don't have children as we understand the concept. Even worse, the Synod seems to be responsible for the Ercubian caste system. Big surprise, the group that wants to control how you think did slavery.
Veracity is an epistemological collective who are dedicated to sending an agent to verify any claim that is ever made in earnest. I don't know too much about them, but they seem to be pretty prevalent in Pertur. Given the amount of knowledge that aliens seem to have in common even between planes, I'd bet that Veracity's list of verified facts is available to other planes of existence as well. Again, I've never heard them referenced. Perhaps they somehow make this information available in secret? After all, if I found out that all information was controlled by an institution, I'd certainly become skeptical. I'll need to look into this one a bit more.
The Order of the Front Door is a Matamb collective which believes that there is a door in Pertur that leads to the outside, and they're dedicated to finding it. They know about other planes of existence and may even be able to access them, but are concered with Pertur's exterior specifically.
Mar'Datha is the plane I know the least about, despite having astral projected there quite a few times in my sleep before I even knew about any of this shit. The plane itself is a desert littered with concrete structures that have impossible architecture - we're talking cantelevers that Frank Lloyd Wright would call excessive. As far as I can tell, there is a sun in the sky and day and night proceed here as on Earth. All the parts of Mar'Datha I have seen (again - only in dreams) have been inside a valley with mountains visible in the distance. They are not tall enough to have snowcaps. Every once in a while, and every time I have been there, there is a flood. The flood is not caused by rainfall - it's almost as if the water simply comes up from the ground. Eventually it rises to cover most of the buildings, leaving only a few feet above water. Though I have never seen it, I believe there is weather in Mar'Datha, as the inhabitants apparently use it to calculate when the floods will occur. At the same time, said inhabitants can control the weather, so it is not the sole factor responsible for flooding. The fact that there is a dedicated building for calculating when floods will occur also suggests that they do not happen at regular intervals.
The Ag-vuesh are the sentient inhabitants of Mar'Datha. I have not yet spoken to one which was willing to answer any of my questions. As far as I have come to understand, Ag-vuesh are small humanoids which have open circulatory systems, meaning their bodies are basically just skin full of water. It seems that this "water" also contains neurotransmitters, suggesting that it serves as all of their body systems - it is stomach acid, blood, and even somehow neurons. I have spoken to Ag-vuesh who describe others "spawning" in their buildings. I struggle to imagine they mean it in the sense that salmon spawn, as Ag-vuesh like things a particular way and I suspect that none of them would tolerate clutches of eggs or gouts of sperm in their buildings... so I guess they just appear sometimes? Though I don't know of any Ag-vuesh governments, they are usually higher up the chain of command when involved with the Synod. I suspect this is because they are usually more powerful psychics than other sorts of creatures.
Os, or the Pit, is the biggest mystery out there. I believe that it is a plane where nothing exists, not even physical space. People occasionally catch a glimpse of it and go insane. Interestingly, they tend to go insane in the same way - they claim that they died, and then take on a new identity which is just the direct opposite of their previous identity. For example, the Ag-vuesh Cräb valued literally nothing above rules and regulations, but upon exposure to the Pit became Haunt, who doesn't even believe that physics operates by consistent laws. Despite the danger, Os seems to have a special draw for pneumatics, who go there once they shed their physical bodies. Whenever I try to connect my spellophone to an Os frequency, I will get one of three things: a distorted voice chanting nonsense, painful infrasound, or a pneumatic.
Team Light, as I call them, is a group of voices which beckon listeners to voluntarily shed their physical bodies and join them in the world of pure light. As far as I can tell, this just means being burned alive and having your psychic energy subsumed. I say "group," but team light is not really a collective of individuals so much as multiple voices speaking in unison. I don't think anything of your personality survives if you join them. Despite their encouraging people to join them by choice, they are able to incinerate people by force. They've even tried to get me a few times.
Sammy Spiritfreak is a pneumatic who occasionally gives sermons. They seem to have very precise control over who can hear them and are able to disconnect my spellophone at will. They talk as if they have a consistent listener base, but I'm beginning to think this isn't the case. Every broadcast begins "Hail to all. You are now listening to Spirit Skirmish." I think the broadcast is simply directed at anyone Sammy thinks is ready to hear it. Sammy Spiritfreak has a strong sense of moral purity and mostly spends the broadcast extoling the virtues of "living by one's own spirit." I don't know what this means, and they refuse to tell me on the basis that I have to find out for myself or else I won't believe them. Spiritfreak makes a lot of good points, but can't elaborate when it counts.
Mickey Mindfake is a broadcast which sounds exactly like me and has true knowledge of all my memories. It claims to be me, but I'm me, and also it says stuff that I would never say. Mindfake's hobbies include making me sound like a jackass by telling stories from my life outside their proper context, and threatening to end Mind Battle. I suspect that Mickey Mindfake is a pneumatic who is trying to farm me for despair. I avoid talking to it when I can, but Moon really likes to direct me to the broadcast whenever it's happening. If I could figure out how to stop it that'd be great.
At the beginning of the common era, there was a short-lived mystical mode of Christianity called Gnosticism. Or, really, there were a bunch of types of Gnosticism, but they had some traits in common. Generally, Gnostics believed that physical reality was subordinate in cosmic importance and moral worth to a transcendent spiritual reality called the Pleroma, but that we were kept from accessing the Pleroma by a cadre of spiritual jailers called Archons. The objective of a Gnostic was therefore to escape the confines of the physical world and enter the Pleroma, where they would reunite with the substance of divinity. Progress along this path was divided into three stages, which are still used by modern aliens to differentiate groups of people. Their meaning remains more or less consistent with the original Gnostic context, though without the implicit moral valuation. Hylics are normal people. They have minds and souls, but are not aware of them. Instead, a hylic is only aware of physical reality. They may know that minds and souls exist, but this knowledge is merely abstract. Because a hylic is unaware of their own mind, they cannot act with or upon it. It is still able to influence them, and they do not understand how or when it does this. Psychics are people who are also aware of their minds. A psychic knows what they are thinking and why, which allows them to think intentionally towards a particular purpose. This awareness is the basis of psychic powers, which largely rely on projecting thoughts into the world or into other people's minds. Species with innate psychic abilities are refered to as psychics colloquially, but technically they can still be hylics. For example, Thrags live every day immersed in psychic technology, but they don't understand how it works so they're still hylics. Pneumatics are people who are aware of the mechanism by which they exist. This is a little hard to differentiate from the mind or from matter - I myself am only a psychic, after all - but as far as I can tell, this roughly refers to the soul. I am aware of my own mind, but still have a self that I differentiate from the process of my thoughts. It is presumably this supermental self that pneumatics are aware of. Pneumatics are generally regarded as dangerous by psychics, as they like to make use of other people's psychic energy. Historically, they have done this by impersonating deities, but it seems like there are maybe other, more insidious approaches at play.
eWASPs are the basis of all of my psychic technology. I am not telepathic myself, but instead rely on a machine which artificially produces psychic waves that I can shape. "Hold on - psychic waves?" Yes! As we know, animals are able to move because they have electricity cracling across a nervous system. The electricity encodes information into neurons, and when that information interacts a mind occurs. If a mind is consituted by individual units of thought and memory combining, then these units of thought and memory must also have some sort of substance, and it is indeed the same substance of an entire mind, and can therefore be produced by electromagnetism. eWASPs take light, which is one form of electromagnetism, and influence it with information from a magnetic field. This interaction produces one instance of the smallest unit of a mind, like 1/100th of a thought. Then, by either oscillating an eWASP beam or having it interact with other structures, I am able to produce a facsimile psyche which is capable of psychic operation. eWASPs have a few advantages over natural psychic powers. First, I can power them with more than just my own ability to focus. This means all I need to do to improve the intensity of a psychic action is increase the electrical input to my eWASP beam. Second, I'm not putting my own mind at risk. When one telepathically connects with another entity, there is a chance that that entity will broadcast information to you that will immediately enter your mind, and this can be dangerous. However, if anyone tries to pull that shit on me, it goes through my machine first and my psyche remains untouched. I suspect that without this buffer I would have been killed by now. Unfortunately, controlling eWASPs is much harder than controlling your own thoughts - I have to turn a series of dials very precisely instead of just thinking. Though eWASP specifically refers to a psychically empowered laser, it is the same principle which underlies my other psychic technologies.
A crucial part of navigating the psychic world is understanding that minds are not simply brains. Brains make minds, but the mind itself is just relationships of information which is encoded and propegated by electricity. In theory, a mind could occur across any conductive substrate. Astral projection, or remote viewing, is the act of extending the relational web of your mind beyond the physical confines of your brain. This usually requires aligning all the frequencies and shit buzzing through your brain with the frequencies of the outside world. The DEC actually has a lot of information on the subject, some of which has been declassified in the form of CIA documents. Psychedelic substances tend to achieve this effect, but it can also be done perfectly sober with great focus. Odds are, you've astral projected without realizing it. How? During some phases of sleep, the brain enters the exact frequency needed for astral projection. Because we're concerned with particle interaction and not physical interaction, astral projection opens a few doors that are closed to physical objects, namely: access to other planes. In much the same way that electromagnetism or gravity are fields that are stretched across the entire universe, there is a psychic field. These fields extend not just through three-dimensional space, but across the phase barrier and into other planes. It is possible that extraplanar gravity wells are responsible for dark matter, and that extraplanar magnetic fluctuations lead to quantum tunneling. I don't know. Much better understood is the interaction of the psychic field between planes, which is the entire basis for basically everything I do on Mind Battle.
Other planes are full of dangerous shit, and I don't want that stuff anywhere near me. Way back in the day, humans had a method of dealing with dangerous psychic phenomena:
magic. Notably, a lot of human cultures produced marks or objects which were able to imprison demons. A demon is a being of pure psychic energy, sort of like a tulpa but not confined to one consciousness,
so I figured I'd try some of this old circle magic on an extraplanar entity. Sure enough, if you can get a closed shape to reverberate with psychic energy, it creates an interference wave. Think of it like an LRAD:
there are a bunch of speakers in the middle making noise, that's the entity we want to contain. These are surrounded by speakers making the inverse wave of this noise, which stops it from spreading out,
and that's how we make sound beams. The spell circle is like the outer ring of an LRAD. As it reverberates, it produces a line of psychic energy that certain other psychic frequencies can't pass.
Thanks to a fun quirk of particle physics where particles that originate from other planes have particular spins that aren't possible for Earth-local particles, spell circles can be tuned to contain
creatures from specific planes of existence. They can also isolate specific kinds of psychic broadcast, which I've used to shield myself from the harmful psychic influence of things like Os. The shape of spell circles
is also essential to the function of eWASP beams, as they can focus psychic energy like a lense. Admittedly, I haven't done much experimentation with spell circles beyond using them to trap Moon and abjure harmful signals,
but some of the Ercubian secrets I got from my midnight orange sales revealed that spell circle tattoos on the forehead can be used to increase the potency of certain psychic operations. I don't know any spell circles that
can prevent physical matter from passing, but I do know some that can block heat, and we also know that they Synod was able to imprison Thrags in Ercubius. As far as I had thought, spell circles could only be used against
energy or things from other planes, but it seems like local circles are a possibility. Perhaps this principle is at play in the DEC's directed energy weapon program?
The Spellophone is a modified AM radio which I use to communicate with other planes. I try to avoid giving too much detail on how it works because while I would love for the public to have access ot this technology, I don't want Dennis to get it. If the government forms an alliance with the Synod, the American people are fucked. That being said, maybe you guys can figure it out with limited information. Check it: normal radios transmit and receive information across a number of electromagnetic frequencies. Even if a frequency doesn't have anyone broadcasting it, you can still tune in, you'll just get static. That's because the frequency exists on its own, we just move information across it. In theory, this should apply across other planes too. Now, we also know that electrical equipment is somewhat sensitive to psychic operation... at least, it's well attested by paranormal investigators, and if aliens are real then I'm not gonna rule out ghosts. Anyway, in a plane where everybody's doing telepathy all the time, this telepathic communication probably constitutes an electromagnetic frequency. All I need to do is get a radio receiver to tune into another plane. To do this, I oscillate my radio's receiver with an eWASP. Depending on the angle at which the eWASP intersects the mundane EM oscillation, it causes the oscillation to match a different plane. The interference is called a "punch beam," and once I have it tuned all I need to do is tune the radio to access telepathic communications. I've sinced altered the frequency band, as a lot of telepathy happens in a weird range that our radios don't use, and there's some fuckery you have to do with the punch beam angles based on the phase of the moon - this is the part that I don't want Dennis finding out about.
eWASP technology is very difficult to use. I'm sure I could make it easier, but my arduino isn't very good and I don't want to buy servos, so I have to tune everything manually. Or, at least, I did before I got my hands on a Gjg'doahg skull! Gjg'doahg basically have built-in spellophones in their head, which is how they're able to navigate their local web of whispers for useful information. This means they have to be aware of every telepathic broadcast in a given region, but also able to sift through them and selectively receive only one which contains terms of interest. Originally, I thought an inanimate Gjg'doahg skull was just going to be like a psychic satellite dish, that it would maybe remove some of the distortion and extend my range or something. I was not expecting the eWASP interacting with the skull to result in the return of the living Gjg'doahg's identity. Technically, the scanner skull is less "psychic technology" than "necromantic technology," but that distinction hasn't mattered for centuries. The scanner skull is a module that extends the spellophone by running the punch beam not into a radio antenna, but into the Gjg'doahg's optic nerve. This way, I'm able to tune which planes' EM fields the skull has access to. From there, I have to rely on the sentience inhabiting the skull to select the broadcast I want. Unfortunately, my particular skull belonged to a uniquely unhelpful Gjg'doahg, but I'm able to manage.
We live in a 3-dimensional universe. Or, more accurately, we live in 3 dimensions of the universe. There are actually some other dimensions that we can't perceive or traverse,
but other stuff does. Scientists have hypothesized this since, like, the 1940s, but planes of existence leave few other options. For simplicity's sake, let's assume only one extraneous dimension. Now,
take a square. A square is a two-dimensional shape with a two-dimensional area, but it also has edges which are each 1-dimensional. Turn that square into a cube, and now you have a volume, but it also has a set of 2-dimensional faces. So
a tesseract is going to have a four-dimensional hypervolume, but also a set of three-dimensional faces. One can imagine our world as one cube-face of this world-tesseract, and another plane of existence as another cube-face. Of course, we can't
actually conceive of this: each cube-face has to adjoin at least one other on all its faces such that many of the cube-faces actually end up occupying the same space while remaining discrete objects. Moving from one face to another is therefore
not a matter of walking around the tesseract, but simply rotating about that 4th dimension. A 3-d object's orientation in 4-d space is its "phase," and the separation between phases is the phase barrier. As far as I am aware, psychic energy is
the only thing that can jostle matter between phases, though aliens seem to have a somewhat reliable means of phase-shifting. I say somewhat - they've constructed a single apparatus called the Phase Nexus, which is a building that spans multiple
phases. It can even be used to access Earth, which means that we should be able to find it...
Humanity has had quantum field theory for a while. Before this, we had loads of cosmologies, but one is especially relevant here: the Hindu proverb of Indra's net. Indra's net cosmology roughly posits that everything in the universe is connected by threads to every other thing in the universe to create something that is infinitely complex but also singular in nature. As far as we can tell, quantum field theory doesn't have much contention with this idea. Apparently, everything is just fluctuations in a group of fields which influence each other. On Mind Battle, we call this principle the Mesh. There are an indeterminate number of layers which comprise the universe, but rather than being stacked on top of each other like the ptolemaic universe, they're all woven together. When something happens on one layer, it ripples across the other layers. At some point a couple billion years ago, one thing happened, and its consequences are still reverberating between layers of the Mesh such that the whole jawn is constantly moving in a way roughly analogous to the churning of a stomach. Each individual movement of the Mesh is called a "pulse," and pulses are the smallest constituent unit of action in the universe. In theory, all magic and psychic operations and stuff rely on using your own mind or body to cause pulses which reverberate out into the wider universe. I suppose technically every thought you have causes a pulse, but if you can direct the pulses you're causing then you can deliberately induce certain occurrences. Mesh theory alone isn't instructive for magical practice, but it explains how phenomena can become related. For example, how can we use electricity to make psyhcic waves? Electromagnetism and the psychic field are at least two layers of the Mesh, and so one is able to effect the other.
So I've talked a lot of shit about targeted individuals on Mind Battle, and I deeply apologize for that. It's all true. Well, maybe not all of it, but the government does have knowledge of psychic phenomena and technology to interface with them. This is all the jurisdiction of a federal entity called "the Department of Expanded Capabilities," or the DEC. Programs like Project Stargate and MKULTRA were conducted under DEC supervision, and they have successfully produced remote viewing and telepathic messaging, as well as limited divination. Apparently, they have some difficulty reproducing remote viewing results, which is why they've spent the past few months trying to get me on board with their program. Remote viewing experiments have confirmed the existence of other planes to them, but I'm not sure how much they know. I do know that they've got "broadcast nodes" set up along powerlines and cell towers which they can use to make people hear things. I also know that these broadcast nodes are not very severe, and that the Synod was able to hack them. You'll sometimes hear me referring to the DEC as "Dennis." This is because of an inside joke I had with my friends at my summer camp, which it turns out was a DEC training apparatus. They attempted to foster superstition in children so that we would create a sort of wilderness survival egregore. Presumably, the ultimate objective was to use this egregore for military purposes - think of it like an Aztec totem warrior but with an all-American deity. It seems like there was more going on at the camp than just this, as looking back on it a lot of us were demonstrating the traits of a sensitive. I always knew Wiley was too good at poker...
